I have read many of your articles, but I am a bit confused as to how encompassing and in what form reparations should take. Do we focus only on wealth redistribution or do we also include some type of service requirements. If so what type of service?

I am also curious to understand how far or to what extent CURE would suggest a Caucasian should go to smooth over the wounds. I noticed you defer the guidance of this point to Black Leaders, but what is too much? RICHARD

Thank you for sharing this valuable information. Right now I'm busy with my work for 642-145 and then I'm planning to go to Canada 642-533 and 642-901. That's why these days I'm too busy with my documents and can not afford to search for these same things. Keep sharing ...

Richard, there is no limit, there should be no boundaries, the old adage, “the most I can do is the least I can do” fits here. There are so many, many advantages that Caucasians have just because they are white and we are not always able to nullify those advantages (sometimes we are able to nullify, such as easily getting a check cashed and complaining to management if you see someone of color having a problem getting a check cashed) but most of the advantages are there for us 24/7 and we benefit by them daily. The work that needs to be done to attempt to level the present day playing field cannot be measured by limitations. We must do ALL WE CAN DO.

You ask how encompassing reparations should be and what form reparations should take. CURE advocates full and complete reparations and we look to an inclusive group of Black leaders (not white media appointed) for guidance on what form reparations should take. Without doubt the descendants of enslaved Africans, recognized internationally as Afrodescendants, are qualified to determine the damage that has been done and they can best determine what is needed for their restoration as a people. We whites are not needed to help with these decisions. I know submission to this process is hard for us because we are so accustomed to having the say about everything.

You ask a question about whether we should focus on wealth distribution and/or service requirements. Personally, I want very much to see a global redistribution of wealth and I believe all of us should make a commitment to serve humanity as best we can, just as way of life. One small step that a number of the CURE members have taken, is to do business with black-owned companies as much as possible. Others volunteer in their communities, in prisons and homeless shelters, in schools and other areas. I’m sure others contribute financially to charities. None of these activities are reparations, they are just a way of life.

With regard to reparations, I recommend that we begin by educating ourselves and, in turn, teaching other white people. To do this, we need to study our true history. We also need to study what has been written about the lingering effects of slavery. There is so much that we don’t know, probably because we just haven’t been pressed to think about it. The reparations movement presses us forward and causes us to examine what really happened, and what effect that horrible past is having today. It is also important that we contribute financially to reparations organizations in order to support the movement domestically and internationally. CURE needs your contributions too, and of course we invite you to join and contribute your time and talent.

As we take guidance from Black leaders and scholars who have been working in on reparations for many years, we can study the various arguments and reparations proposals. We must not make the mistake of relying upon the media for this information. I recommend that you read articles and dialogue posted on our website, and purchase the available books including CURE’s new book. You can also read UN interventions and learn about the international aspect of reparations, for this will bring you into knowledge of the fact that Afrodescendants are one people, scattered among many countries throughout the region of the Americas and Slavery Diaspora. They all suffer damages in common and they all suffer the lingering effects of slavery which are present-day (not past) violations of their collective human rights.

Finally, you ask how far a Caucasian should go to smooth over the wounds, and what is too much. In response, I have to ask how much would you do and what would you give to live in a just world? What would you give to live in a world where every human being had dignity at birth, and opportunities for the same quality of life as every other human being. I want this world to change, and my desire is not half-hearted. I believe there will be many other Caucasians willing to commit themselves as well. We just have to demonstrate to them that the Black Reparations movement is world-changing, truly revolutionary, and even evolutionary.
